On October 15 and 16, 2016, the Education Division of TECO-New York along with Columbia University Taiwanese Student Association (CU TSA) , and New York University Taiwanese Student Association(NYU TSA) jointly hosted the “ 2016 Basketball Contest for Double Tenth National Day” to be one of the celebration activities to congratulate the nation on its birthday. The event was successfully organized and greatly praised from a different angle.
There are totally ten teams from different schools joining the basketball contest, include teams from Columbia University, New York University, Cornell University, Rutgers University, Stony brook University and so on. TECO-NY Education Division organized the event and showed the fully support for the Double Tenth National Day events in Greater New York. Education Division also appreciated and confirmed that this Basketball Contest activity is one of the best events for the oversea Taiwanese from all corners come together to cheer the nation on its celebration. Director Chang mentioned that the contest not only performed the energy and unity from oversea Taiwanese students, but also facilitate the communication among these school’s Taiwanese Students Associations. In all, 10 universities student associations, and over 100 athletic attendees participated in this year’s contest, including local professions.
To celebrate the Double Tenth National Day, some other great annual celebration events were also planned and held in New York and New Jersey for the Nation Day as well. The Syracuse, Queens and New Jersey’s raising flag ceremonies, New York Chinatown’s National Day Parade and TECO- NY’s Double Tenth National Day reception all together in supporting and celebrating Taiwan (ROC)’s glory month of October. Most importantly, Taiwanese students come from different schools and states took part in all the events together with overseas compatriots to show their patriotism for ROC, Taiwan. All participants were impressed and proud to see all of the national day events successfully consolidated its overseas people and once again performed the energy and unity from oversea Taiwanese.
