Over 100 Taiwanese students from Connecticut, New Jersey, New York, and Pennsylvania crowded at the lobby of the Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in New York on Friday, September 1, 2017. The Education Division of TECO-NY and the Federation of Taiwanese Student Associations in New York (FTSANY) jointly organized the event to welcome students for a brand new school year. The event includes students from New York University, Columbia University, Fashion Institute of Technology, Parsons School of Design, Baruch College, and so on.
TECO New York Ambassador Lily L.W. HSU sent her warm welcome to all the students. Ambassador HSU first congratulated all current enrolled new Taiwanese students in 2017 and started their academic journey in New York. She also encouraged students to take care of one another, be aware of public safety, especially when they study aboard in other country, also reminding them that regardless any difficulty in life, TECO New York will provide support. She encouraged students joining the future events, for example, National Day Basketball Cup, the National Day Flag and National Day Parade and other activities. At the same time, she wished all the students will have a great academic progress and good future.
The event also brought students together as one family. As students enjoyed homely bubble tea and snacks. FTSANY leaders introduced the organization and gave tips for navigating New York City. Students were encouraged to get connected, not only with FTSANY, but with their school’s Taiwanese student organization .Though the event officially started at 1:30pm, many arrived early, eager to meet peers and make new friends. At the party’s end at 5:00pm , all were slow to leave and lingered at the entrances, caught up in conversations with new friends and feeling very much at home.
