PONY is a non-profit baseball and softball league that organizes tournaments involving regional teams from North America and teams representing 40 different countries. The PONY League is a baseball series specifically designed for players in their formative early-teen years, and the games are played on an appropriately sized field.
President Tsai Ing-wen sent her warmest congratulations to the team on hearing the news .The Education Director Min-Ling Yang, from Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in New York (TECO) presented congratulation certificates from President Tsai Ing-wen, Vice President Chen Chien-jen, and Education Minister Yeh Jiunn-rong on the site to celebrate their victory in the 2018 PONY World Series championship.
President Tsai praised that the victory by Taiwan team at the Pony League World Series demonstrate the country remains a global powerhouse in youth baseball. She made the remarks for all the players who are mainly from New Taipei Municipal Er Chong Junior High School, their hard training and stellar performances in the championships helped set a milestone in Taiwan baseball history. But the credit also goes to the coaches, teachers and parents who gave everything to help make the triple triumph possible.
The final match at Lew Hays Pony Field at Washington Park drew huge attention from Pittsburg’s Taiwanese community, and local Taiwanese people organized a cheer group to spur on the Chinese Taipei baseball team. The team performed outstandingly and the spectators present at the field all praised their wonderful teamwork.
