Recently, on March14.2016, there was a delegation of 23 school leaders from Taiwan which organized by The Ministry of Education (MOE) visiting Eastern America, include the greater New York area. Their goals are to visit and observe prestigious schools, explore the possibility of bilateral student exchange programs, and explore the possibility of reciprocal educational collaborations. Therefore the Education Division of the Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in New York (TECO) arranged the schools tour for them to observe and exchange the educational and classroom experience. The first stop of New York schools is AVENUES THE WORLD SCHOOL – Chelsea Campus which they visited on March 18 while the second stop is Parsons School of Design.

Avenues: The World School is a planned international system of for-profit private schools for pre-K-12th grades. The system is planned to be an integrated "learning community" with a shared vision, Harkness Discussing, curriculum, technology, professional development of faculty and oversight by a centralized headquarters team. Parsons School of Design is one of the most well-known arts and design higher education institute in the world. Through the presentation from Professor Kyle Lee, the group learnt about how the prestigious school cultivated so many talents for the most creative and innovative design industries of the world.

The Educational Delegation’s leader, Miss Chen, Hsuch-Yu, Director General of MOE’s Department of Planning, mentioned that the purposes of visiting prestigious schools and conducting classrooms observations are to broaden the educational vision. America is renowned for specialty high schools of different disciplines. Some of prestigious high schools have developed and implemented excellent, innovative courses or project-based programs. The investigation aims at entering the classrooms for observations, with a specific focus on the approaches with which teachers conduct the programs and on the educational settings and teaching facilities involved in the process. To gain the thorough understanding of the educational philosophy and rationales behind the programs, the tour anticipates having opportunities to have workshops, discussions, or interviews with principals, experienced teachers, school personnel, and students of the programs.

Education Division in TECO-NY Director Charlin Chang also commented that this Taiwanese delegation worked on learning the new experience very carefully and committed to share and reflect Taiwanese experience. The New York schools leaders and teachers enjoyed their visits and felt impressed with their conversation and engagement in understanding of the educational environment, policies, and systems of the United States.  This is a truly success of international education experience exchange.
