The Department of Asian and Middle Eastern Studies at Duke University in Durham, North Carolina invites applications for a full-time Lecturer in Mandarin Chinese language beginning Fall 2013. The initial contract for the position is three years and it is renewable in increments of five years thereafter based on a demonstration of academic rigor in teaching, curriculum innovation, professional development and service to the field. Candidates should have an M.A. in Teaching Chinese as a Second Language, Chinese Linguistics, Sociolinguistics, or a related field with native or near-native proficiency in Mandarin Chinese and English. PhDs and ABDs are encouraged to apply. Experience in teaching undergraduates in North America and the ability to teach all levels of Chinese language courses are required. Knowledge of teaching or conducting an immersion program in the study abroad context, adaptability with instructional technologies, and experience with team-teaching are highly desirable.
