Education Division of Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in New York (TECO) has launched its first group illustration exhibition “"One World, Different Strokes. This two-week exhibition (May 16 to 28) brings together fifteen of New York's most experienced Taiwanese-American illustrators as well as currently enrolled or recently graduated Taiwanese students from America's top art schools. On the opening reception day (May16), it has attracted more than hundreds artists, professors, and students attending to the event. There was a famous book author of “From Newton, Einstein to God:Poetic Memoir” Dr. Leona Ying, who is also a winner of “2015 Next Generation Indie Book award” coming to the event. He expressed that wonderful illustration make his book become more attractive to the readers, and he was honored to be the part of the event.
TECO Education Director Charlin Chang expressed her opinion, “The unique of illustration is about the expression of the story from each of it. Recently, Taiwanese illustrators become more common and popular in the mainstream. We should show our fully support to these creative students. Also one of the illustrator, Jennie Yip points out “the biggest difference between illustration and fine art is that illustration is a form of commercial art: its aesthetics applies to everyday life. It has to perform certain functions and convey information to its target audience. It needs to take into account the practical and the aesthetic. This information is carried through newspapers, magazines, books, merchandise, and the internet into public life.”
The fifteen Taiwanese illustrators are Nina Edwards, Jennie Yip, Clovia Ng, Wen-Chi, Fang-Chun Lo, Julia Yellow, Ying-Fan Chen,Shao-Wei Chang, Keisha Chiu,Susan Lee,Han-Yuan Yu(Fashion Institute of Technology), Haley Lin(School of Visual Art) ,Yu-Ming Huang .( Savannah College of Art and Design) , Yu Ting Cheng,Jessie Luo,Maryland Institute College of Art).
